Hue - Vietnam

I did the DMZ tour while getting to Hue from Phon Nha. The tour was ok, the tunnels are impressive and it’s good to learn about history and see the tunnel. The tour guide was very funny! The museum was a bit poor, the tour guide explain nothing, I was expecting some sort of explanation. Hue is a cheap place to stay, there are dorms for 2-3$ and with breakfast included. Places to stay Sunshine hostel: nothing special but very clean and cheap with breakfast. Places to eat/drink There are lots of options Places to visit/ things to do The citadel: it’s a nice place if you like architecture and old buildings. You can walk from the town center or by tuc tuc. The abandoned water park: everybody who has been there like it...they say it’s small. The 3 tombs: you can combine this tour with the water park. The night market is also good, if you are brave enough you can try local food! If your next destination is Hoi An you can rent a scooter and do hai Van Pass. Your hostel can

Don Det - Laos

That’s a place to chill, this little island can be explored easily by bicycle. There are places to stay all around the coast. If you want to meet people, go to restaurants and places for drinks, it’s better to stay in the village, next to the pear. Places to stay Most of the places in the island are similar with low standards, no luxury here! You can find bungalows from 35k kipp/night  The average price is 50k kipp Travendang Guesthouse: it’s at the other end of the island, sunrise side, not good if you want to go to town to socialize, but if you want to disconnect from people, it’s great, the owner is very friendly and she cooks amazing!  Good price! With huge and comfy bed and own toilet. Cheaper if you book there and not online. 50k kipp bungalow/night EasyGo backpackers: it’s in the sunset side and they have dorms for only 25k kipp. You can walk and cycle to the center easily if you want to meet people. Places to eat Mama Tanon Cafe: food

North Laos

Image
I took a whole package to cross the border from ChiangRai (Thailand) to Huay Xai (Laos), all transports included and the slow boat, it was a bit expensive but very easy and convenient for crossing the border. At the north from Huay Xai, I took the slow boat to Luang Prabang throught the Mekon river and stopped in Pak Beng. The experience was nice and the landscape,  it it was a bit long, 2 days on the boat, people spend most of their time reading. Tips: bring your own food/drinks and book your stay at Pak Beng when you arrive, it is much cheaper. At Pak Beng, the Indian Restaurants are very good. Other recommendations in the north: I have heard very good things about Gibbon experience and jungle trekking at Luang Namtha. Once in Luan Prabang, there are lots of hostels, you can use Booking.com Things to do Visit KuanSi waterfalls (better to go early in the morning) Walk to the top of the waterfall and if you continue walking few km you will find a very nice area to relax
