Don Det - Laos

That’s a place to chill, this little island can be explored easily by bicycle. There are places to stay all around the coast. If you want to meet people, go to restaurants and places for drinks, it’s better to stay in the village, next to the pear. Places to stay Most of the places in the island are similar with low standards, no luxury here! You can find bungalows from 35k kipp/night  The average price is 50k kipp Travendang Guesthouse: it’s at the other end of the island, sunrise side, not good if you want to go to town to socialize, but if you want to disconnect from people, it’s great, the owner is very friendly and she cooks amazing!  Good price! With huge and comfy bed and own toilet. Cheaper if you book there and not online. 50k kipp bungalow/night EasyGo backpackers: it’s in the sunset side and they have dorms for only 25k kipp. You can walk and cycle to the center easily if you want to meet people. North Laos

Image
I took a whole package to cross the border from ChiangRai (Thailand) to Huay Xai (Laos), all transports included and the slow boat, it was a bit expensive but very easy and convenient for crossing the border. At the north from Huay Xai, I took the slow boat to Luang Prabang throught the Mekon river and stopped in Pak Beng. The experience was nice and the landscape,  it it was a bit long, 2 days on the boat, people spend most of their time reading. Tips: bring your own food/drinks and book your stay at Pak Beng when you arrive, it is much cheaper. At Pak Beng, the Indian Restaurants are very good. Other recommendations in the north: I have heard very good things about Gibbon experience and jungle trekking at Luang Namtha. Once in Luan Prabang, there are lots of hostels, you can use Booking.com Things to do Visit KuanSi waterfalls (better to go early in the morning) Walk to the top of the waterfall and if you continue walking few km you will find a very nice area to r...
